In this work, we investigated the entropy generation rate of the unsteady flow and heat transfer of a radiative hydromagnetic fluid in a permeable channel with partial slippage and convective heating using thermodynamics second law analysis. The radiative flux in the energy equation is assumed to follow Rosseland approximation without linearization. Approximate solutions of the dimensionless momentum and energy equations are obtained using Laplace collocation method (LCM). The approximate solutions for velocity and temperature are used to compute the entropy generation rate, Bejan number and the irreversibility distribution ratio in the flow field. The variation of the velocity and temperature fields are examined for various values of radiation parameter, slip parameter, Prandtl number, entropy generation number, skin friction and other parameters. It is found that each of these parameters has significant effect on the velocity, temperature and entropy generation rate profiles. In particular it is observed that the fluid temperature increases as radiation parameter increases. The study is relevant to practicing engineers as entropy optimization helps them in designing thermal system with minimum energy losses and hence maximizes possible energy available for use.
