PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF BIOACTIVE PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS COMPOSITION OF Lobularia maritima L. GROWN IN TWO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS IN THE WESTERN ALGERIA

Abstracts

Methanolic and aqueous extracts of Lobularia maritima L. (Brassicaceae) of two different locations from Algeria: Tessala (Sidi Bel Abbes) and Beni-Saf (Ain Temouchent) were examined in vitro. The phenolic compounds were determined using spectrophotometric Folin-Ciocalteu method and the antioxidant activity was analyzed referring to the ability of scavenging DPPH. Folin-Ciocalteu and chloride aluminium methods determine the total phenolic and total flavonoids measurement in the extracts of different parts of L. maritima. Finally, hydrolyzable and condensed tannin were determined by ferric trichloride and vanillin methods. Phytochemistry screening has allowed us to highlight the presence of substances with high therapeutic values such as flavonoids, tannins and coumarins. The analysis of variance indicates that there is no significant difference between total phenol, hydrolysable tannins and condensed tannins concentrations of the extracts from different parts and study areas. While there is a significant difference between the concentrations of total flavonoids of the aerial and subterranean part of the plant. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by the DPPH test and it is expressed as IC50. The IC50 values were ranged from 5.16 to 9.33 mg/ml for the methanolic extract and 14.87 to 74.17 mg/ml for the aqueous extract. Due to this issue, we can figure out that all the extracts tested exhibited scavenging activity towards the radical tested due to the presence of relatively high total phenol and flavonoids contents.
